The origins of the Next Generation collection

Did you know that in 2021, we launched the limited edition Golden Gate sneaker from the Next Generation collection? It all started with a modest number of pairs of the Golden Gate in three colours for women and two variations for men. In no time at all, all colour combinations were sold out!

By now, this iconic sneaker has won the 'Golden Shoe 2023'. But what truly makes this revolutionary collection of shoes special? The answer lies in the meticulous design and development process, where every choice contributes to the ultimate walking comfort of the Next Generation sneaker line. We're excited to share more about the origins of the collection.

From demand to sketch

Introducing a new sole type seemed like a valuable addition to our range. Following market trends, we discovered an increasing demand for more athletic shoes with a wider footbed in G-widths. We also frequently received requests for a sporty sole that could provide greater stability with a wider footbed. This led to a careful process where quality, comfort, and functionality took precedence. We created sketches, finalized designs, tested prototypes, and after about 2 years, we were able to guarantee ultimate walking comfort. With pride, we launched the Golden Gate sneaker.

Back to the drawing board

The initial step in developing the Next Generation collection started at the drawing board. During this sketch phase, technical aspects of the shoe were considered. A unique Xsensible last, tailored for both women and men, was developed as the foundation for the sneaker. Next, considerations were made for the appropriate footbed and potential materials that impact comfort. These rough sketches were taken to an Italian designer renowned for sole design. Together, we worked on creating a sole with the right blend of technique and aesthetics, based on a solid last: the basis of the Golden Gate.

The final design

With input from the designer, we progressed to digital sketches. These detailed visuals allowed us to view the sole from every angle (360 degrees) and assess how the design aesthetically aligned with our vision. Upon satisfaction with the digital sketches, we created a plaster mold for the sole. Simultaneously, we began developing the upper part of the shoe. Throughout this development process, we made appropriate material choices and considered future trends for the right colour combinations.

Testing prototypes and initial production

Subsequently, we produced prototypes of the complete shoe to physically test them for fit, comfort, and performance. Prototypes were integral to this development process since you can't walk and test on a plaster mold. We also immediately evaluated the functionality of the stretch materials in the design. In this phase, we gathered valuable feedback from internal and external experts to optimize the Next Generation sneaker. With each design, we aim to meet your desires but, more importantly, surpass your expectations. With the Next Generation collection, our goal was to perfectly cater to all foot types. We meticulously incorporated feedback until the perfect prototype emerged. With pride, the team marked the sneaker as 'Go' and commenced the initial production.

Meanwhile, the marketing team began crafting all communication materials surrounding the launch that took place in 2021. Shortly after, the Next Generation collection became available at retail outlets, and we enjoyed the enthusiastic responses that continue to pour in to this day.

Coming soon

Currently, the Next Generation collection includes the Golden Gate, Ponte Vecchio, Brooklyn, Rialto, Milau, and Helix. This summer, we proudly present the latest models for this autumn. To be continued!
